Time Flies.........

Thought I would do a quick blog post! I will actually be away over the weekend with three of my closest friends, off to a cabin out country, cant wait! These are real friends, not the type who start up a yahoo group just to be nasty about people they pretend to be friends with (sorry but it still hurts and learning curve or not it doesnt take the sting out of it especially as most of them were too gutless to make a heartfelt apology or obviously didnt give a shite anyway or were too busy throwing counter accusations to see clearly what a truely hurtful, nasty, incredibly immature and crappy thing they did).
But sorry I digress, this is going to be a lovely weekend to kick back and relax with real people who actually care about you, support you in good times and bad, are thrilled with the achievements you have made in life and also we will get to do a bit of antiquing too yay! So wont be able to answer any emails till I get back which will be weird not having a computer for a few days :0)

Just dont know where the time goes these days, to say I am "time poor" is an understatement! Just did a big post out of ebay parcels this morning though so am catching up. Of course having a cold doesnt help either but at least its not swine flu!!

Look what my husband brought home for me the other day as he knows I've been unwell for a bit. Cheered me up no end :0) I adore lillies and the climate and soil is perfect for them up here plus a friend of hubbys has a lillium farm just down the road so I am determined to fill the garden up with them as soon as I can.

Of course I still managed to find a few more treasures during the week, its gotta take more than a bad cold to stop me lol! In my ebay store if you are interested...

Who can resiste a vintage pink "frou frou" hat. Have you ever seen so many pink millinary flowers??

You hardly ever find these old celluliod vanity boxes in Australia and this one is just divine with all the gold scrolls and cherubs

Chalkware Crinoline Lady, just SO PRETTY!

And a matching pair of Italian crystal candleholders....
As usual I would love to keep everything myself but am being strong and can be found at my ebay store if you would like them for your own home!
And look what I found on the side of the road this week, out with the trash (I cant believe what people throw out) ~ A Victorian Sea grass chair in white and pink. I think it looks lovely near our front door!

Wonderful week

Available at my ebay store (above)

Have had a lovely time these last few days.

Went on a huge buying trip with a dear friend for her birthday and found mountains of treasures. Spent the day pouring through Antiques and goodies, jumping with excitement over wonderful finds, enjoying a lovely lunch, creating a few laybys (lay aways) and discussing the realities of women and friendships both true friends and false. You can find some of my friends treasures for sale here

Have kept a few treasures for myself, I think this is my favourite, a petit point footstool

Goes nicely with my favourite blue boudoir chair. Also found a few other lovelies that I have kept, will add photos later as it gets dark a lot earlier there these days so have to be quick to get good photos!

Had a wonderful mothers day, the girls made me some hand made books which I love and will treasure always. Then I was taken out to a Yarra Valley winery to taste the local produce.

I also finally got my beautiful bed with the wrap around sides and applique to head and end AND queen anne feet. I absolutely love it and was going to paint it white or french grey to match my wardrobe and dresser but have decided that the dark wood is amazing so am going to leave as is for now. Personally I feel that painting everything white can be a bit of a mistake sometimes as dark wood can be so beautiful (just a personal opinion about my own stuff!!).

The bed is very high, much higher than my last cast iron one, so have placed an antique prayer stool down one side so the girls can climb up easily.

Have added a few other treasures to my ebay store, I do have to share after all!!

Marie Antoinette Beautiful Shoes....

How gorgeous are these vintage shoes. The lady I bought them from told me they are Victorian, I'm not sure but they are very old. I think they are little souvenier items that travellers brought home for their loved ones.

Very Marie Antoinette dont you think?

They are available here at my store this week

Wish List

Was just visiting Mandy over at her blog and realised that in one of her lovely photos there was a little furniture item that has been on my wish list for quite a long time. So here it is.......

Louis Ghost Armchair
Who else but Philippe Starck would dare mess with a king? Reinventing the classic Louis XV armchair for Kartell, the playful Louis Ghost Armchair (2002) is a postmodern triumph of technical innovation and historical style. Translating the varied lines and formal geometry of its predecessor into a single form of translucent or opaque black or white injection-molded polycarbonate, it is a robust chair with not a single weak point. Manufactured in Italy by Kartell
.

I love it because it goes with my chandeliers beautifully, its sleek and its based on another favourite Antique of mine. It does come in other colours but I think I would go with the clear or maybe the blue hmmmm... OR if you order 50 you can put your own design on the backrest!!

It also goes beautifully with my other love MURANO GLASS. You can imagine how excited I was when I found this little 1950's beauty at a garage sale on the weekend, it was the end of the day too, couldnt believe it was still there.....

Shes a keeper for sure, I now have two orignal 1950's Murano Glass mirrors, so hard to find here in Australia but am keeping my eyes peeled for more, just love 'em.

Oh and look what arrived today from Clare at Vintage Home My new sooooo sweet mouse mat. A steal at $5.99 GBP too, a beautiful way to jazz up my work desk. LOVE IT!!

Some more treasures I have just added to my ebay store too!!

Royal Winton tea Rose

Stunning silver pitcher (more than happy to keep this one if it doesnt sell!)

Garden to beds

The gardens here at Greystanes are pretty old. We were told they are Edna Walling gardens but I think they are more Edna Walling inspired! They were however constructed around the same time. Ms walling was a well known Landscape gardener in the 1930s whose gardens consisted of a lot of stone walls, silver birches and English borders. These were her basic design ethics:

Work with existing landscapes and existing features, such as slopes, rocks and trees

Begin by 'sculpting' the surface of the land, preferably not levelling it

Create a unity between the house and the garden

Use architectural principles to structure the garden and soften with dense planting

Individually design for each house and garden and the needs of the clients

Keep garden maintenance to a minimum

How could you disagree with any of that!?

You can go visit here for more information on this amazing landscaper

Personally it suits me to a T, I love her work and one of her original gardens that she did design is only a couple of houses down the road at Folly Farm which by the way is a Bed and Breakfast if anyone wanted a weekend away! (photo below).

Folly Farm ~ Olinda

So in keeping with Edna Wallings ethic we are bringing the gardens back to their former glory. The hard landscaping is already there, its just a matter of tidying and replanting. We thought we would start from the house and work outwards, this is reclaiming the front garden bed.

Weeds are gone, newspaper then straw to stop them coming back.

Looking down from front Verandah, cant wait to start planting!

This photo above shows the original stone wall down the side of the path to the front door. Each stone has been balanced delicately one on top of the other a very very long time ago. The English box hedge has been there all that time too, probably whats holding it up!

Autumn is a great time for planting and enjoying the garden, hope those sunny days last awhile.

Oh and dont forget more goodies I have in my ebay store too!
