Smocked vintage cushions...

Thanks for entering my birthday giveaway everyone, will have a winner on Sunday and will announce it here on the blog plus a picture of the prize so do check back!!

Don't you just love these old vintage cushions, they go under several names, pinwheel, smocked, round vintage and someone told me once that they made them at school as part of their home economic sewing lessons...

This is a real vintage one (above) I currently have available for purchase in my ebay store

And the one below is one I made myself. Yes folks I know how to SEW! Dont do much of it these days but used to sew everything from my own clothes to rabbits in Christening gowns to curtains and quilts when I was younger. Three kids later, not so much lol!

Got to feel pretty movtivated to do it these days and this was the result...

How did it start, well I came across an old Simplicity sewing pattern from the 1970's featuring these little darlings and thought what the heck I'll give it a go.

Made it from an old Damask vintage curtain, it took a few days as they are quite fiddly but here it is. They do require a lot more fabric than what you think too, surprisingly so.

I think it turned out ok. Have already sold this one but will make another soon, nice to do something different!

Very pretty pillow - looks like a lot of hard work. I haven't been doing any sewing in years - I have grandchildren now and they take up a lot of time. Would love to see more of your work.

What a great sewing project Alicia. I'm not surprised it took a lot of fabric.
