My fourth child..........

Shes messy, hairy and mad as a cut snake.
Could be talking about any one of my children but no this is our little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ~ Genevieve. Shes 10 years old and came into our family when our children were quite young.

She loves to be in my photos but I normally try to keep her out of my ebay shots, not everyone likes a dog on or near their potential purchases, however today she felt she had to be the presenter girl and sell that piano stool for me. How can one resist that face!

FOOTNOTE: Genny has done a great job, the piano stool has been sold

Have some amazing things for you this week at my ebay store. I nearly fell over myself when I found these treasures this week.

Especially this RARE find, a point of sale advertising sign from a department store selling French Perfume, dates from 1925. Totally amazing!!

But here is my favourite this week, I could easily go off tap and start collecting these babies. I guess it could be the start of something new if no-one takes this off my hands. Its a LUCITE PURSE dating back to the 1950's, a real piece of artwork that will only gain in value over time.

Whilst peeking around to see if I could find out more about this one (above) that is available now at my EBAY STORE  I found some other equally amazing lucite purses.

The following are all from  http://www.lucitepurse.net/

Divine in gold and bling!

This is an ART DECO bridal purse

Wow those flowers are set in LUCITE!

Droooool

Yes I can see this collection could become VERY addictive.

Pity most of them are only found in the USA where mostly they were made. Thanks heavens for ebay :0))

Have a great weekend everyone.

Grand Opening... here's the photos!

One of my dearest antiquing buddies has finally realised her dream and has opened her new shop.
I've already had a sneak peek and it's full of gorgeous one of a kind items.

1920's
1930's
FURNITURE & COLLECTABLES

If anyone is after a full 1950's white scrolly wrought iron dining setting in fantastic condition, well Daphne has one in her shop but be quick!

Daphne has a real talent for finding the most amazing vintage items (I know for a fact as we have been on many treasure hunts together over the years!) so you are sure to find that special item you will love forever.

I'm not in any of the shots, too busy taking photos! Is it wrong to drink Champagne before midday I wonder ;0)

Thats Daphne in the orange and Karen from Quirky Werx Antiques in Sassafras (near me!)

I actually do have collections.........

I've never really thought that I collected any one thing in particular, but I was wandering around the house the other day and realised that I actually do.
This is my Wall pocket collection ~ they sit above my computer work area.
I like the more "floral" ones as it turns out.
The top one is a Made in Japan I believe
The next is early Australian pottery ~ Star Australian Art
After that a lovely Royal Winton
and the bottom one Green Depression Glass (can you believe I found this in an Opp Shop, and recently too, nearly fell over myself as treasures are few and far between in Opp Shops these days)

Will share my other collection next, Antique Oil Rose Paintings on Cedar board, added another stunner to my collection this week ~ yum!

Footnote: School holidays plus three children = no downloads left as kids have you tubed, facebooked, myspaced, downloaded music etcccccccc.. So my downloads have been "shaped" This means I am on dial up speed so not even worth contemplating viewing blogs. Will go visiting next week when it is "reset", see you then!

A fireplace

We have a large stone fireplace in our front room here at Greystanes. Its tall and made from all sizes of rocks, they could have been pulled from the garden here, there are quite a few rocks in the soil outside. We have been using it quite a lot these colder months (due to an excess of fire wood from fallen trees) and its been beautiful to sit by.

But I'm still not completely happy with whats around it.

Found a few ideas for reference...........

countryliving.com

countryliving.com

So I'm trying to get a few new ideas but you see I really love this:

countryliving.com

And that sure aint a stone fireplace

This is how ours looks pre-renovation below:

I love the overmantle but the rest needs work. This was taken quite a while ago though, its changed a bit since then. I think I may start with the fire screen. The beauty of being an antique dealer is that you can move on bits and pieces to buy something else, just need to find "it" first!

* Postscript ~ I know ladies, I actually do like the idea of painting the fireplace white but alas my other half would never agree and its one of those things, once done there is no return!! This is a more recent photo with chandeliers up but excuse the caulking gun, still preparing for further ceiling painting!

In love with a house

Was having a browse through the blogs today and came across Interior Designer Anna Spiros blog post "A love affair with a house"
She asked the question "Have you have ever felt a strong passion for a house or a property which does not belong to you?" and I thought well yes I have!
And then she said "I have read stories about other people finding a house they love, dreaming about it for years and then becoming the owners down the track. It seems that sometimes, these sorts of dreams really do come true!"
And I thought, well thats exactly what happened with us!

I used to walk our little dog past "Greystanes" nearly every day, I loved the lushness of the garden, I tried hard to glimpse the house behind the hedges and I adored its position near Olinda Village, quiet (compared to our last house) but right in town too. I loved the horses in the front paddock and their little stable.

I Loved the little statues hidden the garden that I could just see between the trees

Then one day there was a FOR SALE sign out front, I had to have a look inside (I told hubby just a quick look) then before I knew it "Greystanes" was ours!!

Of course not everyone was excited as I was, so called friends (no longer thank heavens) sneered and pointed out its faults to my face but mostly behind my back, family still mourning the loss of our father from a viscious form of cancer didnt have it in them to share the excitement. And I really would have loved for Dad to see it too...

But then I came to realise that the most important thing; our little family was really really happy in our new home, and we settled in and we love it here. I think we have finally come home once and for all. I knew it for sure as my hubby and I sat on the big verandah one evening with a cool drink and watched our girls swinging on the ancient myrtle beech tree out front.

And so I use this blog to write about and record our time at "Greystanes". I believe we are the fourth family to live here, first two sisters who tended to the church next door, then a family of ten, then our local hairdresser's family for 25 years and now us.

Shes very old (100+) and tired and needs a little work done, we are happy to do it, she deserves to look her best.

So I hope I dont bore you silly with this blog and my goings on about "Greystanes" I like to call her by name, its not a snooty thing, she just deserves it after being here all this time, she has personality after all. Even if there are cracks, chips, borer and rickity stumps. We love her to bits, our sweet dream house.

Found a lovely Antique rose painting to add to my collection this week, I am going to have them covering one of the walls in the front room. I think this is the nicest one I have found to date!

And a gorgeous fabric topped hall table which I have been hankering after for a while. I may well sell it if I cant find the right spot though, will have a think about it.

And of course more treasures to be found in my ebay store listing tonight.
